Can you read Cyrillic but still struggle to write it?

RusPaw shows each stroke step by step, so you can see how printed letters become handwriting and practise them yourself. A printed т, for example, is handwritten like an m.

  • Stroke guidance: see the order and direction of every stroke.
  • Tracing: follow the guide with your finger, then tap Next.
  • Copying: write letters and words without the guide.
  • Practice: Undo or Clear and try again until it feels natural.

The Founder's story

Welcome to RusPaw: an app to learn Russian systematically, and understand the language and Russian culture in depth

From fearing Russian to loving it, and building RusPaw

During my years at the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, I was lucky to have the chance to explore Russian in depth. To be honest, at first I was rather afraid of Russian: an unfamiliar alphabet, complex grammar rules and pronunciation that was far from easy. But the more I learned, the more I realised that Russian opens up a much bigger world.

Through the language, I discovered the richness of Russian literature, stories from history, cultural traditions and the way Russian people think, feel and see life. Some things seemed unfamiliar at first, but as I understood them more deeply, I found a sense of closeness and some fascinating similarities. The longer I spent with Russian culture, the more that early fear quietly turned into love.

After leaving university, I had more chances to talk with Russian people in everyday life. Those experiences strengthened my belief that language opens culture, human relationships and different ways of understanding the world.

I believe learning Russian is not only about learning to communicate. It is also a chance to reach a literature of great value, explore Russian history and culture, broaden your own perspective and find new opportunities in study, work and life.

That love is what led me to start building RusPaw, an app for people who want to learn Russian seriously. With lessons organised along a CEFR-referenced path, knowledge based on reliable academic sources and a combination of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, communication and culture, RusPaw is being built to make learning Russian more structured, more accessible and more meaningful.

I hope RusPaw will be a companion for you, whether you are just getting to know the Cyrillic alphabet or have studied Russian for a while and want to understand it more deeply.

Above all, I hope that through RusPaw you will not only learn Russian and speak Russian, but also grow to love and understand the wide world behind the language.

Questions

Who is RusPaw for?

RusPaw is for people who are studying, people who need Russian at work, and people preparing for TRKI (TORFL) or another Russian certificate. It is also for travellers, for people who want to learn the language while learning about Russian culture, and for people who want to practise speaking.

You can start before you know Cyrillic. Jerry and Jargan study with you from the first lessons.

What does a Russian lesson on RusPaw include?

Each lesson moves from sounds and letters to speaking, listening to a short passage and answering, seeing why a word changes its ending in a sentence, and practising handwritten Russian. When a sound is still unclear, you can play back your own sentence. Grammar is explained in the sentence you are studying.

Jerry explains the difficult point and gives you time to try again. Jargan brings you into a conversation. Short culture notes, such as a place name or a line of poetry, appear between lessons so the vocabulary stays tied to how people live and speak.

Where does the RusPaw Russian path start, and where does it lead?

The path follows a CEFR reference from A0 to C1. At A0 you learn letters and sounds, then short sentences. The next lesson uses what the previous one taught, and earlier material returns as you progress.

C1 is the end of the path, not a result the lessons promise after a few weeks. From the first levels onward, the material is for classwork, for communication at work, and for everyday conversation. If you are unsure of your level, begin with Cyrillic and pronunciation.

Does RusPaw charge for Russian lessons?

RusPaw has not published a price, so this page does not state one. Leave your email on the waitlist. When the price and the launch plan are settled, you will be notified.

Joining the waitlist is not a purchase. The email is used only to tell you when the lessons are ready.

Which phones will RusPaw run on?

RusPaw will be available on iPhone and Android. The lessons are short enough to study for a few minutes, between classes or after work.

Repeating a sentence, listening once more, or writing a few letters is part of the lesson.

In which language are RusPaw lessons explained?

The language of instruction in the app is Vietnamese, German, English, and Japanese. The website is available in the same four languages.
